Upcoming Changes

The end of this year will see changes in the International Maritime Organization(IMO) rules to bring the practice into the 21st century. The revision will be known as Amendment 37-15 and will be put into effect January 1, 2015 for optional compliance. Mandatory compliance will begin on January 1 2016, giving business owners and shipping companies plenty of time to adjust to the changes in question. While previous amendments were quite extensive, the changes this time around are nowhere near as robust, but still just as important. Some include the reclassification of lamps and light bulbs as non-dangerous goods, as well as revisions for Class 7 radioactive substances. In addition to that, changes to package markings as well as dimensions of placards will be put into effect.

There will also be a number of new special provisions put into effect which include the following:

367: Clarifies use of Shipping Names for Paint Related Materials(now includes both paint and paint thinners.

371: Applies to Articles with Pressure Receptacle and Release Device.

373: Adds procedures for Neutron Radiation Detectors which Contain Non-Pressurized Boron Trifluoride Gas.

Yet again, this is but a small sample of the new regulations being put into place January 1, 2015. For more information make sure you contact ICC The Compliance Center Inc. at 1-888-977-4834 (Canada) or 1-888-442-9628 (USA).

When you are shipping dangerous goods there is a certain expectation of danger, and a certain amount of preparation that needs to go into it. In shipping overseas you will be compelled to comply completely with UN mandates which cover  packaging for hazardous goods, and this can become confusing. Instead of trying to put it all together yourself, why not trust a company that has been in the business for over twenty years and understand international shipping codes inside and out? You have everything to lose and everything to gain when it comes to keeping your products legal during the shipping process. Start planning today and ensure you read over the transportation laws regarding your product, material, or substance. Our solutions are inexpensive, and will help to keep you in business for many years to come. Keep in mind that some of the most miniscule laws might seem irritating and inconvenient, but these rules are in place for safety reasons and will benefit everyone in the long run.
